All inputs stay on your device and are stored locally until you delete them or uninstall the app. No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
Overview
Roby ("the App") is a rent vs. buy financial calculator developed by Joshua Hart. This privacy policy explains how the App handles your information. Roby is designed with privacy as a core principle — all financial calculations happen on your device.
Data Storage
All inputs you provide (home price, rent, down payment, mortgage rate, filing status, and other financial parameters) are stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to export a PDF. Your inputs are stored until you delete them using the "Delete All My Data" option in Settings, or until you uninstall the App.
Data Collection
Roby does not collect personal information. Specifically:
- No account or sign-up is required
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs are included
- No cookies or similar tracking technologies are used
- No data is sold or shared with third parties
- Zip code lookups are resolved entirely on your device
Network Requests
The App makes one type of network request:
- State and county housing data: Roby fetches publicly available housing statistics (median home prices, property tax rates, and insurance rates) from a Cloudflare-hosted endpoint. This request does not include any of your financial inputs. However, Cloudflare may log standard connection metadata such as your IP address, user agent, and request timestamp as part of normal CDN operation. If the network is unavailable, the App falls back to bundled data.
In-App Purchases
Roby offers a one-time premium unlock processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information — all purchase transactions are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. Your purchase status is stored locally on your device to unlock premium features. No purchase history, receipts, or transaction details are transmitted to any server controlled by the developer.
PDF Exports
When you export a PDF, the document contains all of your financial inputs and the App's analysis. The PDF includes a notice that it contains personal financial information. PDF sharing is entirely at your discretion — the App does not transmit, upload, or store PDF exports.
Device Permissions
Roby does not request access to your location, camera, contacts, photos, microphone, or any other device capabilities.
Children's Privacy
Roby is intended for users 18 and older. The App does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. Because the App collects no personal information, it is compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident:
- We do not collect personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
- We do not sell or share personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration.
- We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for any purpose.
- You may exercise your right to deletion at any time using "Delete All My Data" in Settings.

Other State Privacy Laws
Various U.S. states (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and others) have enacted consumer privacy laws. Because Roby does not collect, process, sell, or share personal data, the App is designed to comply with these laws. For questions, contact us at the address below.
International Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, the GDPR may apply. Because Roby does not collect or process personal data on any server, no data is transferred across borders. All processing occurs locally on your device. For questions, contact us at the address below.
Data Retention
Your calculator inputs and preferences are stored locally on your device until you delete them (via "Delete All My Data" in Settings) or uninstall the App. No personal data is retained on any server.
Apple Privacy Manifest
Roby includes an Apple Privacy Manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) declaring:
- NSPrivacyTracking: false
- NSPrivacyTrackingDomains: none
- NSPrivacyAccessedAPITypes: UserDefaults (for saving your inputs)
- NSPrivacyCollectedDataTypes: Coarse Location (derived from IP by Cloudflare CDN, not linked to identity, not used for tracking)
Security
Because Roby does not collect or transmit personal data to any server, there is no risk of server-side data breach. All data remains on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, device encryption).
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected both in-app and on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Material changes will trigger a re-acceptance of Terms & Conditions within the App.
